Introducing Aarsland

A long story short: Aarsland furniture factory is one of Norway’s leading suppliers of quality office and school furniture. We have local production at Vigrestad on the Danish Jæren. It is now the fourth generation to run the furniture factory.

For almost a hundred years, the Aarsland family has passed the business from generation to generation. In 1922, Erik J. Aarsland and his brother started a furniture workshop where they made everything the customer wanted – from rocking chairs to wheelbarrows and entire dining rooms.

When the war came, the Germans took the factory as a residence, but in 1946 Erik J. started up again together with his son Sigbjørn. That year, the first desk was also produced at Vigrestad, for the customer Office Supplies in Stavanger.

Martin and his brother Sven Erik took over the factory in 1979. At that time, Aarsland was largely involved in bed production, but in 1983 the factory shifted towards office furniture and contract furniture. Sven Erik went out of business in 1997, and Martin continued alone, and the growth continued too: several new buildings were added, in fact as many as six in the period 1985 – 2004. Industrial buildings were also bought for Aarsland Stål og lakkk, which was started by the brothers.

Martin is still involved in the business today, but now Erik J. Aarsland – the fourth generation – is the daily manager. With the same name as his great-grandfather, it is now his turn to find the way forward for a tradition-rich business. He is keen to pass on the heritage in a good way:

“I want to pass on the good knowledge so that we can continue to create good values for people and our environment. We should be proud of the legacy we pass on to the next generation.”
