miinu® introduces itself
When we founded miinu® in 2010, not only did our stomachs tingle, but our synapses burned like fireworks. We could finally do what we wanted to do: Carpets our way. A love game of the ages. A liaison between Aphrodite and Miley Cyrus. This is how centuries-old craftsmanship & clean design kiss in a cozy warm bed of flourishing inspiration.
A unique dream, this is first and foremost due to the handwork. miinu® carpets remain handmade. Too much is lost if they are made by machine. For miinu®, it is never a matter of going down the quality ladder, but always of going up. It sounds presumptuous, but ambition needs a high attitude, otherwise nothing will ever come of it.
miinu® draws on the skills and infinite knowledge of specialists from traditional carpet manufacturers worldwide: no one can warp better than this one family business in Nepal, no one can dye better than the partners in Portugal, and no one outside the subcontinent has managed the Indian secret processes for natural fiber knotting techniques anywhere near as finely for centuries. The carpets show this handmade love. Even if they are trampled on later.
Since 1994, Care & Fair – Teppichhandel gegen Kinderarbeit e.V. has been committed to supporting children of carpet weavers in Nepal, Pakistan and India, along with their families. This includes school education, health care and adult education. In the meantime, Care & Fair works with exporting and importing members from more than 24 countries, who finance the projects with their taxes and donations. miinu® finances and supports 10 teachers, 25 women (Women Empowerment Program) and 315 students of the Semuhi School in Jaunpur, India – in the immediate vicinity of one of our production facilities. We do this out of full conviction and great passion.
